Veeam Availability Suite v9

Veeam v9 Backup and replication / ONE upgrade from v8

This is just a quick post showing the upgrade process of

  • Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager
  • Veeam Backup and Replication
  • Veeam ONE

I didn’t hit any issues with the upgrades.

  • It’s always a good idea to reboot your servers before any update

And plan for further updates once the Veeam upgrades have completed as well.

Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager

  • I had to install .Net Framework 4.5.2 to continue the upgrade, which required a reboot
  • I upgraded from v8.0.0.817 (so not the latest patch)
  • I was asked to confirm the SQL Database upgrade
  • The server needed rebooting at the end of the upgrade

my development toolkit

My daily tool kit – IT gadgets and software – #vDM30in30

I have currently spent a lot of time visiting different customer sites and working with them to build up a picture of their environment and such. Usually with the aim to provide a design around architectural changes that we would recommend to move their environments forward.

So I thought I’d give a short list of some of my day-to-day tools, this isn’t a comprehensive list, and I spend most of my time working with VMware. So take this with a pinch of salt!

Tools/Gadgets

Wera 10000v Screwdriver set – Handy set of screwdrivers, I know most people opt for a multi-driver, but I’ve been on some sites where the cabling and power has been questionable. I wouldn’t say these are the toughest tip drivers around, but I’ve had them a few years and they have lasted.

Veeam v8 is here – New Features and Upgrade Process

So Veeam’s High Availability Suite is here!!!! Basically v8.

So in this post we are looking at Features and the upgrade of the program, and using the program when updated.

New Features
Backup and Replication

My favourite feature which doesn’t seem to be in the documentation online, is Snapshot Hunter, where Veeam actively looks for and removes any snapshots which havent deleted properly, i.e where vCenter said snapshot removed, and it hasn’t!!!

Microsoft Exchange Hosting

Microsoft Exchange – No DNS servers could be retrieved from network adapter

The other day whilst virtualising an Exchange 2010 server from Hyper-V to VMware we found that mail routing outbound stopped working.

When looking in the event log we found;

Error ID: 16025

No DNS servers could be retrieved from network adapter %1. Verify that the computer is connected to a network and that the Get-NetworkConnectionInfo cmdlet returns results.
